May Welcomes You

with silly laughter and scrumptious food indulging opportunities! May begins to mark the closeness of semester's end and with that comes a flurry of assignments with converging due dates. No matter! Distract yourself with coffee dates, breakfast, dinners and shows (: And that becomes the cause of hurried reading and produce of papers. We all know how this ends. Haha. No. Balance is key.

The week has zoomed by and how lovely it has been. Sunny weather + road works = agitated driving! Hah. Thankfully not. Hmm, one week is a long enough time for something to go painfully wrong and also pleasantly right. So, how was your week?

I took the chances I had to bask in the sun and capture bits of it. Sometimes Autumn makes me a confused dresser or perhaps I have poor meteorological intuition. As we all know, Auckland weather forecast is not to be completely trusted.

Tamaki campus leaves are so zen.

I'll always love the way the light enters this space. That's our new rug! It wakes the feet up and adds some texture to the pale tones.

The odd thing about uni is that sometimes they ask you to do things that make no sense. For instance, the handing in of one assignment had to be in the City campus so off I drove and nicely parked on Princess St. (driving in the city makes me sightly uncomfortable because I'm not comfortable). Glad to have found a park so easily I confidently made a paying blunder! Ended up paying $11 for 2 hours. !)#*{)&%$(($&$(%$ right?!

Anyway, the plus of that was lunch with E at Elliott Stables. Facing the 'Elliott Stables' sign on that wall, another one above me reads 'Hunger is Non-Negotiable'. Hahah. This place with its 'sit-anywhere' policy and order from any restaurant is such a neat little hideout. Not that it's difficult to find or get to, but I think a lot of people miss it for unknown reasons to me.

Currently, I'm into sour flavours and savoury goodness. This was just that!

One another balmy day, I finally made it to Mimosa. This cafe is really close to home and is all organic. Not overly decorated, it exudes cosiness in a simple and minimalistic sense. On the walls were illustrations of a plant dissection like you would see in Science class (although you can't see it here). Fun trip for my memories (:

It was a quiet afternoon there and while I waited for company, I noticed the cafe pottering about on its' chores (:

Osaka Rosti- a refreshing change to a normal rosti (: was nomsssss

As it does, mid-week arrived. Hump day! Wednesday's can be busy, moody, lazy... crazy (like with my old job)! So, to remedy this- a pot luck dinner on York St!

With growing hair (:

It was a party for 8, with 3 of them being residence of York St. And on the menu:

Fran, Johnny & Basia: a rack of lamb, egg salad in an egg & punch + seating place cards heh
The newly weds: a quiche/ chick coleslaw salad noms
Sami: a mushroom-like bruschetta
Us: a cranberry/ feta couscous salad + dessert of choquettes and moullinex au chocolat (with salted       caramel!)

It was good company (: A different and almost possibly awkward mix! Haha and above is some success in the dessert area. Not perfect but close (: Earlier this year, Nath showed me a little cooking show- BBC's Little Paris Kitchen with Rachel Khoo and that's where we got the recipes from. Rachel's cute and cooky and it follows her tiny apartment restaurant in Paris with her twist on Parisian food. Yum! Definitely worth a try in the kitchen.

The next day, the sun shone so nicely it enabled some shadow play before we headed out to see Rainer Hersch's Victor Borge. The set up was pretty intimate and I must say yes to opportunities of laughter. His impression of Victor Borge and acts in his act were funny and new to the extent of educational on how momentary fame can turn out to be despite major hits in the media for a long period. Hah.

As usual, we began the evening at Mezze and was glad to introduce Kane to its' delicious tapas!

By Friday, the rain marched in and has lingered. This constant change in weather is expected and brings a bout of time togetherness with more food, more conversation and more food? (: Happy week all!

  1. AHA! I have noticed you didn't put a hyphen on your nametag!

Awesome first picture with all the light though - beautiful! And the coffee looks amazeballs...
